  • Jenni Rivera was noticeably absent from the screening of her acting debut, "Filly Brown."

According to the newspaper El Universal, organizers confirmed that the singer would walk down the red carpet, but she canceled at the last minute, raising speculation she failed to show because she didn't want to talk to the press about her divorce.

"We hope she makes it, we're waiting for her," said co-star Edward James Olmos at the premiere Oct. 9 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. However, Jenni never showed up.

"Jenni is going to surprise everyone with her acting. She's great. I can tell you that Jenni will probably be nominated for an Oscar for her role," said actor and "Filly Brown" director Michael D. Olmos.

The film tells the story of María José "Majo" -- played by Puerto Rican actress Gina Rodríguez -- a strong girl who lives absorbed in her own musical world in the streets of Los Angeles and longs to become a hip-hop star to pull her mother out of prison to reunite her with their family.

In the film, Jenni takes the role of Gina's drug addicted, incarcerated mother.

The movie was featured at this year's Sundance Film Festival and is set to debut in January 2013.
